Parish Community

All members of the Maternity of Mary community are invited and encouraged to be active in our parish family.  Listed below are the councils, ministries and social groups that make up our parish community.

Ministries

Liturgy Committee

This committee seeks to enhance the liturgy by making it meaningful and prayerful for all who participate. Members are responsible for planning and preparing the church for Sunday liturgies, major feasts and civil holidays.

Altar Servers

Young boys and girls from the fifth grade through Senior High School are invited to serve at the liturgical celebration.  Servers of all ages are also encouraged to work in this ministry by serving at the funeral Masses of our parishioners.

Eucharistic Ministers

Parishioners volunteer to distribute the Holy Eucharist at Mass and to bring Communion to shut-ins.

Lectors

Trained parishioners perform the ministry of reading the sacred scriptures at Sunday Masses and other liturgical functions.

Gift Bearers

Parishioners bring up the gifts at the weekend Masses. The entire family is encouraged to participate. Sign-up sheets may be found on the usher's table in the narthex of the church.

Ushers

The ushers are ministers of hospitality at the weekend liturgies. This function is open to both men and women.

Greeting Ministers

These ministers - both men and women - greet each person as he or she comes into the Church. Just as God welcomes His people, so also is everyone welcomed by fellow parishioners as we join with our parish family in worship.

Parish Choir

The Choir sings at the 10:30 a.m. Mass Sundays, September through May. Practices are on Thursday evenings. New members are always welcome.

Parish Councils and Groups

Parish Pastoral Council

Nine elected and two appointed members of the parish, representing a cross-section of our church community, meet regularly with special emphasis on long-range planning in the areas of education and liturgy.

Finance Council

Appointed parishioners volunteer their expertise in planning and supervising the financial management and resources of the parish.

Primetimers

All parishioners 55 years old and over can join the group on the third Wednesday of the month for Mass and a catered lunch, plus other varied activities. Several tours and a picnic are planned each year.

Men's Group

Men of the parish are invited for fellowship and cards the second Tuesday of each month.

Young Adult Group

We will periodically include upcoming young adult events in our community in our weekly bulletin.  For more resources, information and events, visit the website for the Archdiocesan Office for Youth and Young Adults.

Youth Group

The youth of the parish, grades seven through twelve, join together for fun, friendship, service and to share and grow in their faith with other young people in the parish.  For youth events and information check out our Youth Group page.

Respect Life Committee

This committee sponsors various activities, especially in January and October to increase awareness and appreciation of the sacredness and dignity of all human life.

Cribbage

Cribbage is open to anyone in the parish. Sessions are the second Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the North Hall.

Community Sharing

Coffee & Donut Sunday

Coffee and donuts are served in Sirba Hall on the third Sunday of each month after the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Masses. Members of various organizations alternately assume the responsibility for this service. Everyone is encouraged to come, visit and meet new friends in our parish family.

Parish Library

The Parish Library is open after each of the weekend Masses and is located in Sirba Hall.  The library offers many books, videos, and other resources for faith building for all ages.  You may search for items in our parish library on-line or please stop in after Mass to see what is available.

Parish Picnic

Every Fall, Maternity of Mary hosts its annual Parish Picnic.  This is an opportunity to show appreciation to all parishioners for their membership, their volunteering, and their generosity.  Each member of the parish is invited to join for hot dogs, beverages, games and visiting with other fellow parishioners.
